SOCIO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Socio-economic development (SED) refers to both monetary and non-monetary contributions made to empower black South African individuals or groups. The goal is to support initiatives that build skills, create sustainable opportunities, and enable income-generating activities that drive long-term economic participation.
Under the B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice, if at least 75% of the beneficiaries of a socio-economic development initiative are black South Africans, the full value of the contribution can be recognised. If the percentage is lower, the recognised amount is calculated proportionally based on the actual percentage of black beneficiaries.
